September Newsletter

It looks like summer may be ending soon.  I hope you have been enjoying all the fresh produce from your own garden or from one of the many farmers markets.  Those should continue for another month or two or three depending on which one you use.  You can find information about these at http://www.livinghiho.com/farmers-markets a new page I've created.  Please send me details if you know of others in the area that should be included. The potluck is coming up soon but NOT on the first Monday this month.  Because of Labor Day we will be on the second Monday, Sept 8th.  I will be the speaker and will be demonstrating the art of growing your own sprouts.  The potluck is at 6:00, see http://www.livinghiho.com/lansing-living-foods-group  for complete details and a map.

Speaking of the web site, there are a couple of new pages there.  The first is book recommendations http://www.livinghiho.com/book-recommendations .  On it I have many of the raw food books and recipe volumes that are in my house.  It would help my mission if you choose to purchase these books (or any other books from Amazon)  if you would go to Amazon from this page.  The second new page is Eatin' Out http://www.livinghiho.com/eatin-out   This page gives some ideas for where to eat out in the Lansing area and general ideas about how to eat out any where.  If you have additions to this page e-mail them to me, I'd love to make this a really great resource.  If you know of web sites that give restaurants in other cities it would be great to put those in there too.  That way if you are traveling you can search for places to eat out.  Check out the articles section as well.  I receive lots of different raw food e-newsletters and my favorite articles I copy to this section http://www.livinghiho.com/articles.  Some include Advantages of Eating Raw, Comments on a Recent Weight Loss Study and the honey resources from Joyce Wang.

Lots of great events in September starting right off Sept 2nd so be sure to check out the calendar and don't miss something because you didn't know about it.  http://www.livinghiho.com/event/2008/09/27/month/all/all/1

The recipes are now on the web site see below for the links.

Hope to see you at lots of the events.

Cricket is the speaker for Sept
Cricket has been in raw food for over 11 years.  She studied with Victoria Boutenko at Creative Health Institute and has hosted the raw food potluck for 10 years.  She is self-taught at food prep, having tested recipes at the potlucks and on her unsuspecting family.  Her “Not Cooking” classes are ever popular and people have a great time while learning.  She has been called the sprout lady by some in her circle since growing sprouts seems to just come naturally to her.  She is an author with 5 of her Sister-In-Raw and the book has enjoyed success as an easy to read but information packed edition.
At the September potluck she will be showing us the basics of growing sprouts.  There will be sprouts in jars, tray and bags.  You will get to taste them and the handouts will include general directions along with some recipes.
Come join us for a great potluck and a chance to learn more about growing sprouts.

Cell Phones More Dangerous Than Smoking

The Interphone Study spearheaded by United Nations was conducted 1996-2006 in 13 countries which are Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and the UK using a common core protocol.

On February 15, 2008, Israel's finding released on dangers of cell phones:  http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/02/080214144349.htm

On May 27, 2008 Dr. Vini Khurana, Neurosurgeon, Canberra, Austrailia spoke on Larry King Live along with other experts:  http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0805/27/lkl.01.html

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/mobile-phones-more-dangerous-than-smoking-or-asbestos-802602.html?r=RSS

Even the USA FDA recommends "since time is a key factor in how much exposure a person receives, reducing the amount of time spent using a wireless phone will reduce RF exposure. If you must conduct extended conversations by wireless phone every day, you could place more distance between your body and the source of the RF, since the exposure level drops off dramatically with distance. For example, you could use a headset and carry the wireless phone away from your body or use a wireless phone connected to a remote antenna."  according to weblink http://www.fda.gov/cellphones/index.html

From the on page 4 of the weblink, http://www.emfacts.com/papers/children_mobiles.pdf states, "18. Advice of the Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (RNCNIRP) on the use of mobile phones. The RNCNIRP offers the following advice on the safe use of mobile phones. These recommendations are based on the precautionary principle of the World Health Organization, published scientific and medical studies, reviews and recommendations by scientific groups, and the expert opinions of  RNCNIRP members.
1. Children under the age of 16 should not use mobile phones.
2. Pregnant women should not use mobile phones.
3. Those suffering from the following diseases and disorders should not use mobile phones: neurologic diseases such as neurasthenia, psychopathy, psychosteny, and all neurosis with asthenic, obsessional hysterical disorders and reducing of mental, physical activity, memory loss, sleep disorders, epilepsy and epileptic syndrome, epileptic predisposing.
4. The duration of calls ould be limited to a maximum of three minutes, and after making a call the user should wait a minimum of 15 minutes before making another call. The use of headsets and hands-free systems is strongly encouraged. Manufacturers and retailers of mobile phones should include the following information together with the engineering specifications: all of the above recommendations regarding use; all relevant health and epidemiological data on mobile phones; together with the radiation exposure levels associated with the phone and the name of the measurement lab.28"

Free Health Book Summaries

I recently was sent an email about a free service
that will allow you to read thousands of pages of
the top books on health, nutrition, and wellness
books in a fraction of the time it would normally
take.

The service called Health Book Summaries takes all
the important topics from books written by well
known health authors and breaks them down into a
digestible 10-12 page summary.

It's like a Cliff's notes for health!

I just scanned one of the summaries in literally 15
minutes and couldn't believe how in depth it was.

It's the ultimate time saver for you if you are
interested in improving your health or if you are a
health practitioner, personal trainer, or in the
medical field.

But here's the thing...

Don't take my word on it.  I think this is a
groundbreaking service, but I'd suggest you go see
for yourself and make your own judgement!

All you have to do is visit the site, register (it's
completely free) and you'll be taken to the summary
archive where there are already 3 summaries that you
can download immediately!

Go there now and register:

http://www.healthbooksummaries.com/
Once you do, they'll send you 2-3 summaries (at n0
cost to you) a month so you can keep up with the
newest and best health information and still have the
time to live your life.
